Progress Reports

The time has come for progress reports. They will be going home on Wednesday, October 30th. In our class we spend a good amount of time on self-assessment and self-reflection. We look at ways to improve our work and behaviour. For each writing task, math concept, and learning skill we create a list of success criteria. This is a list of things we need to be successful in a specific area.

In September we, as a school, decided to focus on the learning skills responsibility and organization. As a class we discussed examples of each and what it means to be responsible. We refer to the responsibility and organization success criteria frequently throughout the day to assess and reflect on our work and behaviours.

Today the students had the opportunity to complete their own personal progress report. They highlighted each behaviour in either PINK (what they feel they are doing well) or GREEN (what they feel they need to improve on). They will then write a paragraph outlining one thing that they feel they have done well over the past two months and one thing they would like to improve on.

Their personal copies will be going home next week along with the formal progress report. Please feel free to use them to discuss and compare progress reports. I have to say that I am impressed with their honesty and ability to reflect on their behaviour. I would like to continue with the learning skills self assessment throughout the year as the students will be more aware of and responsible for their behaviour.
