GROWING PATTERNS HOMEWORK

We are working on word problems in math. When solving word problems we use ROSE to help us solve the problem.

R: read and re-read the question, highlight the information you know in pink and the information you don't know in green. IDENTIFY exactly what the problem is asking you to do.
O: organize the data (t-chart, graph, etc..)
S: solve the problem
E: EXPLAIN and JUSTIFY your thinking

Dear Students:
This week you are responsible for answering 2 of the following questions. You are more than welcome to answer more if you want or feel that you need more practice. The following questions have been taken from the EQAO website.

1) Matthew has a book with 11 chapters.
He reads chapter 1 on the first day of April. Three days later, he reads chapter 2.
Will Matthew finish the book by April 30th if he continues to read one chapter every
three days?
Circle one: Yes No
Show your work and explain your thinking.

2) Ava reads for 30 minutes each night before bed.
After 2 weeks, has Ava read for more than 6 hours?
Circle one: Yes No
Show your work and JUSTIFY your thinking.

3) A frog jumps a distance of 25 cm on each jump. A grasshopper jumps a distance of 20 cm on each jump.
If the frog jumps 6 times, how far does it travel? If the grasshopper jumps 8 times, how far does it travel? Which one jumped the furthest? Use a T-Chart to organize your data.
Show your work and JUSTIFY your thinking.

4) Maya gets the same number of stickers each day.
On Day 1 she has 6 stickers.
On Day 2 she has  11 stickers.
On Day 3 she has  16
On what day will she have exactly 51 stickers?
Show your work and JUSTIFY your thinking.
